Orangeola (Acer palmatum ‘Orangeola’)

Orangeola (Acer palmatum 'Orangeola')

This cultivar was selected here in the Willamette Valley and it is worthy of its name. It is the last of the palmatums to change color so its bright orange color remains after most other trees are bare ruined choirs. Zone 5.

Lion Heart (Acer palmatum ‘Lion Heart’)

Lion Heart (Acer palmatum 'Lion Heart')

Lion Heart is supposed to be an upright red like the green Seiryu, but I have not seen that at all. It is definitely red and definitely dissected, but I don’t find that it is nearly as upright as Seiryu. Michael Healy’s photo shows the leaf perfectly.

Germaines Gyration (Acer palmatum 'Germaines Gyration')

The name, Germaines Gyration, makes it seem like this plant should be contorted or squiggly, in some way which is why I have chosen a leafless picture so you can judge for yourself. It is basically a very vigorous green dissectum.

Emerald Lace (Acer palmatum ‘Emerald Lace’)

Emerald Lace (Acer palmatum 'Emerald Lace')

Emerald Lace (Acer palmatum 'Emerald Lace')

Emerald Lace is the best of the green dissectums in my opinion; it has smaller, finer leaves and is thus lacier; it is vigorous so you don’t feel like you’ll be dead before it looks like something and its growth habit is regular and outwardly pendulous without looking weepy; it has scarlet fall color.

Crimson Queen (Acer palmatum 'Crimson Queen')

Probably the best known of the red weeping dissectums, it is not be best by a long shot and it is certainly OK so I will continue to grow it for the many people who know nothing else. Zone 5. This photo was provided by Michael Healy.
