Variegated Cornelian Cherry is a shrubby tree to 12′, has masses of yellow flowers on blackish limbs in late winter, edible fruit (pretty sour actually so it is mostly used for jelly, etc.) and good fall color: a super tree all-told. zone 5

Sunrise (Cornus mas 'Sunrise')
After bad-mouthing the fruit of Cornus mas for years, this year I decided to do a real test and taste it when it was ripe. Sunrise was the first to ripen and the sweetest and I was impressed. It is not a blueberry or a mulberry, but it is definitely edible.

Pioneer (Cornus mas 'Pioneer')
Fruit bigger and thus more edible, I.e processable. Where did that bug come from? Wouldn’t you think I would have knocked him off? Anyhow he didn’t hurt the fruit because for the first time I actually waited until all the Cornus has ripened, and by durn! it wasn’t half bad.

Elegant (Cornus mas 'Elegant')
This cultivar is grown for the large red fruit.

Bigfruit (Cornus mas 'Big Fruit')
Not a sophisticated name, but descriptive. ‘Big Fruit’ has big tasty fruit when ripe.

Aurea (Cornus mas 'Aurea')
Aurea comes out golden in the spring and it stays amazingly yellow in the summer; the problem is that it burns a little in the bright sun; the flowers are bright yellow in early spring. zone 5.
